Christopher Friedman and Dera Nevin Crowned 2009 Zoom! Yah! Yah! Indoor Marathon Champions
The 4th Annual Zoom! Yah! Yah! Indoor Marathon crowned two new champions in 2009. Christopher Friedman (36) of Peoria, IL set a new men’s standard with his 2:51:31 performance. Friedman becomes only the second man to win the Zoom! Yah! Yah! Three time defending champion and former course record holder Randy Peterson (Northfield, MN) lost for the first time while running 3:09:03 and finishing fifth. Darrin Pater (Adrian, MN) finished second with a time of 3:03:53 and Dan Kasper (Northfield, MN) crossed the line in third at 3:06:58.
Dera Nevin (37) of Toronto, Canada was the first woman to cross the finish line in a near course record time of 3:07:57. Nevin’s performance was only 55 seconds off of 2008 champion Amy Yanni’s (Rapid City, SD) course record of 3:07:02. The Women’s Division second place finisher was Laura Jackson (Hamburg, NJ) in 3:40:24 and the third place finish was Jennifer Hansen (Stillwater, MN) at 3:44:39. Nevin, Jackson and Hansen finished 12th, 13th and 14th in the 40 runner starting field.
The 39 finishers in the 2009 Zoom! Yah! Yah! came from 12 states and Ontario, Canada. 85 runners registered for the lottery that was used to determine the 2009 field. The 5th Annual Zoom! Yah! Yah! Indoor Marathon is scheduled for Sunday, January10, 2010.
